Abstract
The growth temperature of the peritectic phase on the primary phase was investigated for Sn-13 mass%Cu and Cd-(6-15) mass%Cu alloys which have eutectic and peritectic points in their phase diagrams. Specimens were grown directionally and then quenched to delineate eutectic and peritectic growth fronts. The peritectic growth temperature of Cu-87 mass%Sn alloy did not change with growth rate while that of Cd-(6-15) mass%Cu changed. A model for the growth temperature was proposed and it was concluded that the growth temperature is likely to be very close to the peritectic temperature unless slopes of the two liquidus lines almost coincide.
