The light rare earths, particularly cerium compounds, are becoming more and more important recently. The preparation method of Ce(OH)4 · xH2O through transformation between cerium compounds was investigated. The process is compared with the direct routine by reacting Ce(III) with sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide as a oxidant. The results show that transformation process is a potential preparation technique to produce Ce(OH)4 · xH2O with better physical properties. ? 2000 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.-
