Abstract
1.55 μm gain was measured in a 28mm long zirconium fluoride glass single-mode fiber which was pumped with a 514.5nm argon ion laser. A dichroic single-mode fiber coupler, made by the fusion tapering method (with less than 1 dB excess loss), was used for mixing the pumping laser and signal.
