dc.description.abstract | Drivers driving combat vehicles or commercial vehicles such as tanks or trucks have a limitation to recognize the surrounding situation due to the structural characteristics of the vehicles. In this paper, the authors propose the head-mounted display based omnidirectional situational awareness system. Six cameras installed outside of the vehicle collect images and generate seam-less panoramic image in online. The viewpoint is cropped from the panoramic image based on users’ head motion and visualized through HMD. The proposed system is evaluated by survey type experiment with a captured scene from an outdoor environment. The experimental results show that the proposed omnidirectional situational awareness system can reveal the surrounding information without significant discomfort. | - |
