Abstract
Bioadhesives have been widely utilized for sealing, immobilization, and adhesion of biological tissues and organs. Their use can be divided into two categories such as soft and hard tissues according to application parts. The former includes cyanoacrylate, fibrin glue, protein glue, polyurethane, marine adhesive, etc. and the latter comprises surgical bone cements and dental adhesives and cements. Recently, Dermabond, 2-octyl cyanoacrylate, was approved by the FDA as a topical skin adhesive and thus it is expected to be extended to apply for wound closure and sealing of surgical incisions. This review deals with recent trend of R&D in bioadhesives including tissue adhesives and their characteristics and uses in medicine.
