We synthesized alpha-methylstyrene copolymers containing the organic salt chromophore and investigated their second-order nonlinear optical properties in terms of the linear electrooptic coefficient, r(33). The measured electrooptic coefficients of poly [1-[(N-ethylenepiperazyl)-stilbazolium tetraphenyl borate]-N-[(1,1-dimethyl-m-isopropenyl) benzyl]]carbamate-co-methylmethacrylate methylmethacrylate (POLYMER I & II), and poly [1-[(N-ethylenepiperazyl)-stilbazolium tetraphenyl borate]-N-[(1,1-dimethyl-m-isopropenyl)benzyl]]carbamate-co-N-vinylcarbazole (POLYMER III) were determined around 30-40 pm/V at 632 nm wavelength. The observed temporal stabilities of linear electro-optic coefficients of these copolymers were observed much better than that of guest-host system or other NLO side chain polymers due to their outstanding physical properties.-
