Abstract
The distribution of stress during hot pressing of a cast (Fe,Cu)-Nd-B magnet was simulated by SPID. The calculated stress components were compression stress (sigma(z)) and shear stress (tau(r,z)). The stress component causing the magnetic alignment during hot pressing was sigma(z). Tau(rz) virtually played no role in the magnetic alignment. Generally, sigma(z) was higher at the center of a specimen and decreased gradually along the radial direction to the periphery of a specimen during hot pressing, while tau(rz) was negligible and uniformly distributed throughout the specimen. Random orientation and grain growth of phi were evident at the outer part of a specimen where sigma(z) is very weak.
