Abstract
A model for propagation of laser breakdown and detonation waves in droplets is described in detail. The model explicitly accounts for the evolution of the plasma and its coupling to the laser radiation. Results obtained with the model are compared with experiment for laser-induced breakdown of water droplets. Model predictions are found to agree well with experimental observations. Calculations show that laser-pulse modulation results in more efficient coupling of laser radiation to droplet.
